Sarah Lee is the founder of Waypoint Vets, a non-profit organization that provides outdoor adventure opportunities for military veterans. Sarah’s passion for helping veterans stems from her own experiences as a veteran of the US Army. After serving in Iraq, Sarah struggled with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
She shares that one night, overcome by grief, she attempted to take her own life. “Thank God I failed. The next day I bought a bike and started a cross-nation ride.”
Sarah explains that many veterans struggle with PTSD and other issues related to military service, and that the great outdoors can provide a sense of peace and healing. With this in mind, she founded Waypoint Vets in 2014 with the goal of providing veterans with the opportunity to engage in outdoor activities and connect with their fellow veterans.
Since its founding, Waypoint Vets has grown into a thriving organization, providing a variety of outdoor adventures for veterans of all ages and abilities. The organization offers hiking, camping, fishing, kayaking, and rock climbing trips, among others. These trips are led by experienced guides who are passionate about helping veterans and provide a safe and supportive environment for participants.
She tells veterans that they must, “honor the fallen by living.”
Sarah’s vision for Waypoint Vets is to create a community of veterans who support each other and find healing and happiness through outdoor adventures. Her passion and dedication have made a significant impact on the lives of countless veterans, and her work has inspired others to get involved and help support this important cause.
