For years, women’s participation in the military was overlooked, but when the Women In Military Service For America Memorial opened in 1995, that changed.

“The mission of the memorial is to tell the story of women’s service,” said Women In Military Service For America Memorial CEO, General Wilma Vaught.

“Until we started it, that history wasn’t really being captured,” she Vaught said. “This is a place where we collect and put together the history of women in the military.”

Check out this video on the touching history of the only major national memorial honoring all women who have defended America.
