Each day, the VA honors a special military veteran for their dedicated service on their blog, VAntage Point. Today’s veteran is Army Veteran Antoine Lewis, who served as a logistics officer during Operation Enduring Freedom.

Antoine Lewis enlisted in the US Army in 1997 where he served for six years before leaving in 2003. After leaving the Army, he completed both his undergraduate and graduate degrees before returning to the Army as a logistics officer in 2010.

Lewis was deployed to Afghanistan for a year in September 2011 before serving in Korea, and Ottawa, Canada – where he was assigned to US Army North as part of the US Army Military Personnel Exchange Program.

On March 10th, 2019 Lewis died in a plane crash from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to Nairobi, Kenya while doing missionary work. The plane crashed only six minutes into the flight. Lewis was 39-years old and is survived by his 15-year-old son and his wife, Yalena Lopez, who also served in Afghanistan.

We honor his service.
