Homebound veterans in Iowa received a Thanksgiving surprise over the weekend.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office teamed up with the Polk City American Legion Riders on Sunday, November 24th with one goal – give back to those who have sacrificed for our country.

The Sheriff’s Office and American Legion Riders joined forces and assembled Thanksgiving Feast baskets large enough to feed a family of 8, packing them up and delivering them to the homes of local veterans who are unable to leave their homes to do the grocery shopping.

“It was very humbling for me to see the number of folks that showed up,” said Polk County Sheriff, Kevin Schneider to KCCI Des Moines.

“We [also] have a lot of veterans who work in the Sheriff’s Office [so] it was great for them [to have] the opportunity to give back.”
