13 of the 16 residents at the veterans home in Lebanon, Oregon who were infected with COVID 19 have made a full recovery according to the Oregon Health Authority.

Two veterans passed away due to the virus and one is still sick, but the 13 recovered veterans are doing well – including 104-year-old World War II veteran William Lapschies.

“Words cannot express our gratitude to the medical staff at the home who helped guide these recoveries, and who provided such exceptional care to our honored residents,” said Kelly Fitzpatrick, Oregon Department of Veterans’ Affairs director to ABC 7.

Lapschies family says that hydroxychloroquine, a drug used to treat malaria, was among the multiple strategies used to cure him.

Lockdown protocol is still being observed at the home.
