Chicago state Rep. Mark Walker is inviting Arlington Heights veterans to his upcoming town meeting.

According to Journal and Topics, the meeting will be held on Friday, January 17th at American Legion Post 208 at 121 N. Douglas Ave., Arlington Heights, Chicago. The meeting will focus on veterans’ issues and a local service officer from the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs will also be in attendance to help answer questions and receive feedback.

“Our veterans and servicemen and women have pledged a great deal to our country, state and local communities, and it’s important we do everything we can to repay that debt,” Walker said. “While I’m happy to say we did good work this past session helping our veterans, there’s always more work to do. I’m hosting this town hall to hear from our area veterans about what more we can do at the state level.”

As an Army veteran himself, Walker has helped co-sponsor and pass several veteran-supporting bills, including Senate Bill 1468, which extended military personnel discounts to their dependents, and House Bill 34, which, if passed, will extend a veteran’s homestead exemption on property taxes to their surviving spouse.

“Veterans’ issues are as diverse as our veteran community, making it vital to hear from many different perspectives. I highly encourage our local veteran community to join me for this important discussion. If anyone cannot attend but would like to share their thoughts or concerns, they can always share that information with my local office. My office can also help with state services whether they be with the IDVA, Medicare and Medicaid, disability or employment issues,” Walker said. For more information, or to share your own ideas and concerns, residents can contact Walker’s full-time constituent at 847-749-1137 or by email at [email protected].
