Team drivers Mark and Staci start the day just the way they like: side-by-side watching the sunrise from their truck.
Mark served in the United States Marine Corps from 1978-1984 and initially chose trucking as his next career path because it gave him the freedom to be out on the road alone.
“It’s just me and the truck,” Mark said.
But that changed when his wife Staci joined him to drive team for CFI. “If I’m going to be partnering with somebody, I can’t think of anybody better to be partnered with than my wife.”
With 36 years on the road, Mark’s military experience started him in the right direction.
“The military gave me a lot of discipline and gave me the sense of wanting to do a job 110%.”
Committed to the troops, 14% of CFI’s fleet are military veterans.
CFI provides veterans with a supportive environment and growth opportunities, and “that’s made a difference,” Mark said.
This dedication reaches to military charity opportunities as well.
As the national transportation sponsor since 2015, CFI donates transportation for Holy Joe’s Café, providing coffee to troops in 80+ countries through the chaplain network.
CFI supports the Wreaths Across America Foundation which provides wreaths for veteran cemeteries with the mission to remember, honor, and teach. Mark and his student had the unforgettable opportunity to move one of these loads, “it was an honor…because I truly understood what they were for.”
Mark’s student had recently been deployed from the army, it was a patriotic journey for both, “that may be a once in a lifetime deal.”
For now, Mark enjoys the sunrises across the US, team driving with Staci in their truck.
“My wife is just as proud as I am, and we try to show our pride out here just like all the other veterans.
We’ve been everywhere from Washington down to California, and back over to New York and everywhere in between. We’ve covered a lot of ground.”
