Virginia State University is hosting a two-day conference aimed at helping out military veterans who are interested in starting a career as a farmer.
The conference, called “Boots to Roots,” is being sponsored by the Farmer Veteran Coalition and Virginia State University’s Small Farm Outreach Program and will be held March 17th and 18th at the University’s Gateway Event Center in Colonial Heights, reported the Daily Press.
Veterans who attend the conference will be educated on resources and grant opportunities for farmers, as well as how to create business plans and successful farm production practices. Jewel Bronaugh, commissioner of the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, will speak at the event.
